Organic, Bio vs Processed - What food should I eat ?

Of course organic food should be option number one every time, of course when it is possible to have it, but there are some considerations to talk about. These days we are surrounded by a lot of food variations, food cultures and food opinions. Some people just hit the organic shelf at the supermarket and think that this is it, they have a healthy way of living. Well this is not all …

First of all we have to analyse our health level and our diet, which has to satisfy our current needs. Maybe we have to loose weight, maybe we are happy to maintain our weight or we need to supplement more because we are in an intense training phase with a high energy consumption. This  is why it is indicated to adapt our diet to our needs, based on our age, health, activity level or any special period we are passing. This can be done with or without the help of a specialist but for best results it is not a bad idea to work with one.

Ok, but now what about organic food ? Is it enough that we see  the “organic” or “bio” label on the package ? Of course not. Let us imagine for a moment that all the food around us is bio or organic. In this case can we eat what we want without looking at calories or quantities ? Of course not, we still have to adapt our food to our caloric needs and most important to our nutrients needs.

Maybe organic biscuits does not help so much when we want to loose weight, or as bio and good quality the dates and figs can be, we should stay away from them if we have problems with our sugar level. There are a lot of quality meats and cheese variations made with organic ingredients but remember that they have to be consumed with moderation. A lot of organic products we find on the shelves contain important quantities of fats and sugars so it is important to take in consideration this aspects when we get them. Don’t misunderstand me, you don’t have to avoid them, you just need to get them in the right quantities. These days when the market is full of low quality and junk food and organic products are expensive and sometimes harder to find it is easy to get trapped in buying products that are not suitable for us or to buy and eat more from one specific food just  because the label has the “organic” badge.

That is why, in the first place it is better to establish what foods to eat and what foods meet your needs, and THEN, after you have a blueprint of your menu in your mind or written on paper, try to use as many organic, seasonal, local ingredients you can. This is how I see the correct order…
