Eating In Holiday …

Eating in Holiday …

So you are in holiday … these are the days you had in mind all year … new places, new experiences and of course new tastes to try. There are “temptations” (or unguilty pleasures) everywhere, from the rich breakfasts to the fancy dinners, from the mornings with foamy coffees and creamy ice creams to the long sunny afternoons with coloured umbrellas in exotic cocktails or why not ice cold beers served directly at the pool bar… And of course the magic evenings with lights, music, wines that worth talking about and special spirits to help your digestion :)… Then some of us (with yellow mornings and sunrises in mind) end the day and others enjoy the night with more talks, drinks, music and lights … We are different but in holiday all of us just want to relax, recharge and give our body and mind a brake from the daily routines and problems …

Now let’s get back to the food …

Just because we are in holiday it does’t mean that we should consider food and drinks the main relaxing thing (of course good food is a part of a good holiday but definitely it is not all …). I don’t want to give advices of how or what to eat in “your holiday”… I just want to highlight some aspects which may help some of you who are interested in ending your holiday without gaining weight, feeling full and tired or thinking about upcoming food restrictions or diets all the way back home :)… Even if you don’t apply or agree with this thoughts maybe you’ll smile and laugh about them with your friends and that is for sure a good thing to do in holiday :)…

Moments with questions :)

Breakfast and buffets - just because you are looking to a rich buffet it doesn’t mean you have to try all the stuff in one day (most often the first). You don’t have to give up at your favourite things or sweets but be careful what you mix. A couple of delicious croissants with jam and a foamy cappuccino sounds well but ham, eggs and cheese at the same meal ? Think twice  - you need a body full of energy for the day not a one that you can barely move on to the beach … So a good idea if you want to try more things at breakfasts or buffets is to choose different every day - you’ll have a croissant day, an omelet day, a ham or sausage day …or a fish day, a beef day and a vegetarian day (you can forget about it if you are a meat lover :) -) what do you think ? This way you don’t mix on a plate all you can find in front of your eyes and you have also the chance to try many dishes …

Fruits and fruit juices - even if they come from fresh pressed fruits you have to be moderate with juices … Why ? Because your body absorbs the sugar faster than if you eat a fruit and the quantity is harder to control. For example it is not “easy” to eat 4 oranges before breakfast (unless you run 10 miles :) - joking) but drinking an orange juice made from 4 oranges is a 2 minute job. Whole fruits contain fibres which slow down the sugar absorption and make you feel full and satisfied … But you are in holiday… don’t say no to all juices but drink them with moderation not as a fruit or water replacement …

Local products and local food - if you have the occasion be open and try local products and food prepared by local recipes. You will have a better connection with the place you just visited, you’ll find more things about the traditions (every local food recipe has it’s story) and yes you will eat fresh products from local farmers with the feeling you support them in the same time.

Moving or sports - Holidays aren’t bootcamps at least not for all of us. But, if you are familiar with a few training sessions per week at home and you have the occasion you can try some things even if you are in holiday. Hikes, long walks, biking and why not a beach runs will keep you in shape and you’ll enjoy better the food and drinks … And also on the way home you won’t be thinking about how hard is to start again after a week or more of pausing your sport activities. But remember you are in holiday have fun and don’t try to fill the day only with fitness targets :) …

Drinking - In holidays, some people are relaxing better with a couple of glasses, others with reading, walking and meditating or others maybe prefer visiting new places and tourist objectives. It is up to you but be aware that starting too hard on drinks may affect the way you feel,  so be moderate with drinking or do it in a way that allows you to be at full capacity (or close) all your vacation days (nobody wants a full day in bed recovering after the day before). That does’t mean you’ll have to miss the cold beers with friends or a good wine at a romantic dinner, not at all :) …

Sleeping - In order to feel good and full of energy we have to sleep … even if we are in holiday even if there are lights and music every where and distractions at every our of the day and night … Plan a little bit what you want to do and try to figure when enough is enough. Every vacation day deserves attention and with “3 hours of sleep per night” you won’t be your best version. Again keep it balanced :)) … Enjoy… Have Fun … !!!
