Baked Oat Bars with Dark Chocolate …

The main advantage of making your own bars is that you have full control over ingredients. And they can be a healthy snack, the kids love them, they are easy to pack and carry …

It is very simple to prepare them and after trying some combinations you will surely find the “settings” that match your preferences. Thinking at a classic oat bar “blue print” probably I would have in mind ingredients like : oat flakes of course, a sweetener like dried fruits (dried fruits contribute also to flavour), honey or syrup, some nuts and seeds (like cashew, almonds, pecan nuts), cocoa or coconut oil (optional) and some ingredients for flavour like chocolate flakes, cinnamon or again dried fruits. And I would not mix all ingredients that come in my head in one bar :)… My advice is to keep it as simple as you can … it will be tasty for sure. If you have many ideas you can prepare different type of bars instead of an overcharged one :))…

So I gave it a try … dark chocolate oat bars …

INGREDIENTS - for 8 bars (about 100 grams each)

  • Organic / Best you can get oat flakes 300 g

  • Organic / Best you can get dates 80 g

  • Good quality dark chocolate 90-99% 40 g

  • Organic / Best you can get cashew 80 g

  • Organic / Best you can get almonds 80 g

  • Bio rice drink with coconut 250 ml

The steps …

  • Preheat the oven at 200 C with ventilation

  • Split the oat flakes in two equal parts - bake half of them 10-12 minutes on a tray using baking paper and grind the other half shortly in a blender just to obtain a finer texture (not a flour texture)

  • Do the same with the chocolate pieces … just brake them in grain pieces with a blender and split it into equal parts

  • Bake the almonds 6-7 minutes at 200C with ventilation then let them cool and grind them shortly in a blender - you just need them broken in smaller pieces, you don’t need almond flour :)

  • Put the rice drink, the dates and the cashew in a blender and blend at least a minute and a half until you obtain a creamy texture

  • Put all ingredients in a large bowl with one half of chocolate flakes and mix them with your hands until all composition is uniform … children like to take part at this messy step :))

  • Prepare a smaller tray and place the composition in the tray on baking paper … press well using a spatula …

  • Bake this oat pie about 20 min at 200C and let it cool down. Before cutting it into pieces heat the other half of chocolate flakes and with a spoon distribute the chocolate over the pie …

  • Cut it into bars and here you go … we have the homemade oat bars …

Enjoy !
